The Role
Step into a leading fintech company as its subject-matter expert on complex, non-recurring, and emerging accounting matters. You’ll research and document accounting positions under U.S. GAAP, partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and the business, and help make sure the company’s financial statements and disclosures are accurate, complete, and audit-ready. The role reports into the Technical Accounting & External Reporting leadership team and works closely with the Corporate Controller organization.
What You’ll Do
- Research and evaluate the accounting impact of new or non-recurring transactions with potential material impact, documenting conclusions in well-supported technical accounting memos reviewed by the Head of Financial Reporting and SOX PMO.
- Monitor and assess new and emerging accounting pronouncements (ASUs) and SEC guidance, maintain the company’s accounting policies, and lead implementation of significant changes — leveraging Big 4 research tools and training.
- Prepare technical accounting analyses and memos across revenue, stock-based compensation, leases, EPS, debt, equity, and investments.
- Serve as technical accounting reviewer and approver in the Chart of Accounts creation and maintenance process, verifying account mappings and financial statement alignments.
- Support preparation and review of workpapers underlying the Form 10-Q/10-K, including EPS, stock-based compensation, and other non-routine transactions.
- Own and operate key SOX controls in your areas, coordinate with external auditors on walkthroughs and requests, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Partner with the compensation team to forecast stock-based compensation expenses.
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and business teams on the accounting and reporting implications of new transactions and strategic initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; active CPA required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant Big 4 public accounting experience — technical accounting or national office experience is a plus.
- Strong, current knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, with a demonstrated ability to research technical issues and write clear, well-supported position papers.
- Experience with technical areas such as stock-based compensation (ASC 718), leases (ASC 842), revenue (ASC 606), debt, and business combinations.
- Public company experience and a working understanding of SOX internal controls and the external audit process.
- Fintech or SaaS industry experience is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite and/or Oracle and Workiva preferred; advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional partnering skills, with comfort operating in a fast-paced close environment with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
