Career Advice for the Nomad Worker!
Healthcare and pharma companies are in the middle of a slow-motion overhaul: paper-based and legacy quality systems are being replaced by electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS), and someone has to actually run that transition. That “someone” is increasingly working from a home office instead of a regional office, which is a shift a lot of QA professionals haven’t caught up to yet.
Here’s what that work tends to look like in practice. A company rolling out a new eQMS across multiple countries needs a person who can sit between the central project team — IT, product, compliance — and the local teams who’ll actually use the system day to day. That means gathering data before go-live, training regional staff (often becoming the go-to “qualified trainer” for a region), and fielding the inevitable wave of user issues once the system goes live, logging and escalating anything that needs a fix.
It’s a role that rewards people who are comfortable being the translator between two worlds: the technical side building the system, and the regulatory/quality side that has to live inside it. Familiarity with GxP standards — Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Distribution Practice — matters more than deep coding skills. So does comfort with Microsoft Office and the patience to explain the same workflow five different ways to five different regional teams.
What tends to separate strong candidates isn’t just healthcare or pharma experience, though that’s usually required. It’s people who’ve sat through a system rollout before and know that “hyper-care” — the stretch right after go-live — is where the real work happens, not the calm planning phase before it.
If this sounds like the kind of work you’re built for, we’re currently helping fill a remote Healthcare QA Specialist role supporting exactly this kind of global eQMS rollout, for an organization in the logistics and healthcare space. Five-plus years of healthcare or pharmaceutical experience is required, along with a bachelor’s degree.
